Engineering an Empire, the Persians

The Persian Empire was one of the most mysterious civilizations in the ancient world. Persia became an empire under the Cyrus the Great, who created a policy of religious and cultural tolerance that became the hallmark of Persian rule. Engineering feats include an innovative system of water management; a cross-continent paved roadway stretching 1500 miles; a canal linking the Nile to the Red Sea; and the creation of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Mausoleum of Maussollos.

IRAN, the Everlasting Passion

IRAN, officially Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in Western Asia. The country’s name was changed from Persia to Iran in 1935. Iran is bordered on the north by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and the Caspian Sea; on the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; on the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and on the west by Turkey and Iraq. Tehran is the capital, largest city and the political, cultural, commercial, and industrial center of the nation.

IRAN has a long and rich history. Some of the world’s most ancient settlements (10000 BC) have been excavated in the Caspian region and on the Iranian plateau.

The Aryans came about 2000 BC and split into two groups, the Medes and Persians. The Persian Empire founded (550 BC) by Cyrus the Great.
